Expecting a package? It might be delayed by the DNC

The logistical web of road closures, traffic, and security surrounding the Democratic National Convention likely will ensnare some package deliveries next week.

The logistical web of road closures, traffic, and security surrounding the Democratic National Convention likely will ensnare some package deliveries next week.

A FedEx spokesman said Saturday that some delays related to the convention will be unavoidable. A UPS spokesman said the company was not expecting delays, but will have a "special operating plan" in place.

The FedEx spokesman said the company is working with officials to minimize problems.

"While security operations for the convention will unavoidably lead to some delays in the pickup and delivery of shipments, we are working diligently to provide customers with the best service possible," spokesman Jonathan Lyons said in a statement.

FedEx drivers are expected to use alternate routes, and the company is planning around street closures and other restrictions, Lyons said. He had no estimate on when the delivery delays might begin or how many days a package's delivery might be delayed.

For updates, he said, customers should check the website at fedex.com or call 1-800-GO-FEDEX.
