Mayor Nutter announced Thursday the second round of funding for local companies and institutions that are helping develop and grow Philadelphia's startup and tech community.

Mayor Nutter announced Thursday the second round of funding for local companies and institutions that are helping develop and grow Philadelphia's startup and tech community.

Through the Commerce Department's Startup PHL Call for Ideas, five groups will each receive up to $25,000 to start or further develop programs that promote entrepreneurship in the city. Unlike the Startup PHL Seed Fund, which provides money directly to startup companies, Call for Ideas provides funds to organizations that support entrepreneurs.

The city "continues to develop into one of America's most diverse, dynamic and exciting places to build a technology company," Nutter said at a ribbon-cutting for a startup, SevOne, which just expanded into new South Broad Street office space.

The awards this year, which focused on student engagement with the city's tech companies:

The PennApps Fellows Internship Program will use up to $25,000 to fund 10 internships.

Philadelphia Fashion Incubator, will use $25,000 for a series of monthly fashion seminars and panels for designers.

Zivtech will use $24,000 to teach a six-week developer boot camp to 30 participants.

NextFab will support four co-op fellowships with its $25,000 grant.

Technical.ly / Philly Startup Leaders was awarded $25,000 to run a series of eight workshops that will connect the tech community to students and universities.
