C ITY COUNCIL will take a closer look Thursday at violence in parks and public-recreation facilities in the wake of several recent shootings at city parks and the rape of a 12-year-old girl inside a Southwest Philadephia rec center.

Councilwoman Cindy Bass, chairwoman of the Committee on Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, called for a committee hearing - the only one to be held during Council's three-month summer recess - during which city officials and community leaders are expected to discuss the matter.

Bass said that she wants to have a discussion about what has been happening and possible solutions. The hearing kicks off at 9 a.m. in City Hall Room 400.
