City unions taunt 'Mayor Grinch' with the '12 Days of Nutter'

POSTED: Thursday, December 20, 2012, 12:58 PM
District Council 47, which represents city white-collar workers, is calling Mayor Nutter a grinch this holiday season. (AFSCME DC 47)

Ah, the holidays, when family comes home to visit, kids dream of new toys and municipal unions taunt the mayor in song for a contract battle with no end in sight.

About 20 members of District Council 33 and District Council 47, which represent white-collar and blue-collar city workers, sung the "12 Days of Nutter" outside City Hall around noon today.

One member dressed as "The Grinch" as the group passed out mock holiday cards depicting Nutter as the famous Dr. Seuss character.  They were so into the song that they didn't notice Nutter pull up, get out of his car, cock his head their way and then walk into City Hall.

About half of the group then entered City Hall, went to Nutter's second-floor office and sung in the hallway again as Nutter staffers and police officers watched.  The song went:

  • On the first day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- The rich keep their tax abatements!
  • On the second day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --RO-o-lling Closures!
  • On the third day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- NO mo-ney!
  • On the fourth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- Shut Li-braries!
  • On the fifth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- I D-O-N-T L-I-K-E working-people!
  • On the sixth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- Contract out our work!
  • On the seventh day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- I’m cutting Services!
  • On the eighth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --Lower corporate tax-es!
  • On the ninth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --I Killed paid sick days!
  • On the tenth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --NO feeding the Homeless!
  • On the eleventh day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- I’m really Republican!
  • On the twelfth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- Thanks for paying for China!

The unions have been working without a new contract since July 2009.  Nutter wants the unions to accept changes to work rules and benefits. The unions have said they will make no concessions in new contracts.

Don't these people have something better to do...like work? Of course not! They are unionized government employees living off of others' earnings.

WHAT IS REALLY FUNNY IS THAT PEOPLE BASH UNION WORKERS ABOUT BEING LAZY POLITICAL HACKS, IM NOT IN A UNION BUT I SUPPORT WHAT THEY DO FOR THEIR MEMBERS, YOU BASHERS OUT THERE SHOULD REDIRECT YOUR ANGER AT THE AMOUNT OF SLUGS AND LEECHES WHO ARE BLEEDING THIS CITY, STATE AND FEDERAL GOVT. DRY!!! UNION PEOPLE WORK, THEY GET UP IN THE MORNING, HEAD TO WORK AND DO AN 8 HOUR DAY, UNLIKE THE LEECHES AND SLUGS WHO SLEEP ALL DAY, PARTY ALL NIGHT AND GET EVERYTHING FROM HOUSING TO HEALTH BENFITS FREE, AT OUR EXPENSE, UNION WORKERS PAY TAXES, ARE RESPONSIBLE, AND ARE NOT THE PROBLEM WHEN IT COMES TO GOVT HAVING NO RESOURCES, ITS THE LAZY IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ON THE GRAVY BOAT SINCE THEY WERE BORN!!!

I am not union. I work hard and I am paid well for it. That is how it should be. My impression of unions is that they are made up of people like me AND people that are shiftless and lazy that are getting much more than their share. When it comes to ME having to use MY taxes to pay for the lazy people...I have a problem with unions. Why? It is near impossible to get rid of the dead wood when you have union backing so no one bothers trying thus people who are not in a union, who have regular jobs with bosses that expect them to work hard for their paychecks get scammed by paying more of their paycheck to support the unions.

Great song! I agree with these workers. It is time for Mayor Nutter to stop advancing an agenda that only helps his wealthy buddies.

Let me see, take a $100/monthly from my pay for Medical, went up on Co-pays and medicine fees, but didn't give me a raise. So I have to make a decision: do I pay my bills or get my medicine. (live or die), um Does Nutter care. UH CaNooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    wallycleaver,
DO you me the Gimme Gimme class. We need to make public assistance almost impossible to get. Throw the scammers out. We also need to break the back of unions that cater to the lowest common denominator. We need Pennsylvania to become a right to work state.
