Christie gets Time cover -- but he looks like a mobster

Is Chris Christie the real-life Tony Soprano? That's what Christie said he thought when he saw the cover of this week's Time magazine, which depicts him in a tough-guy pose. The headline is "The Boss." The caption says he is the "master of disaster." We're not sure what the article is about, and Christie wasn't even interviewed for it, but Christie said today the picture makes him look like Soprano, played by James Gandolfini in the hit HBO series about the New Jersey mob, "The Sopranos." And, well, he has a point.

Christie gets Time cover -- but he looks like a mobster

Gov. Christie will appear this week on the cover of Time. The issue hits newsstands on Friday.

Is Chris Christie the real-life Tony Soprano?

That's what Christie said he thought when he saw the cover of this week's Time magazine, which depicts him in a tough-guy pose. The headline is "The Boss." The caption says he is the "master of disaster."

We're not sure what the article is about, and Christie wasn't even interviewed for it, but Christie said today the picture makes him look like Soprano, played by James Gandolfini in the hit HBO series about the New Jersey mob, "The Sopranos."

And, well, he has a point.

"I'm reporting Time magazine to the like anti-Italian Defamation League. I mean look at that thing with ‘The Boss’ underneath it, I mean come on. I can't wait for that to come home for my kids to see it," Christie said, jokingly, on Fox Business Network's "Imus In The Morning" (see below).

But Andre' DiMino of the Italian-American One Voice Coalition is not joking. He told the Star-Ledger that although the cover made no mention of the fact that Christie is part Italian-American, “in the rest of the country this will just put out that subliminal message that Christie and the mafia is the same...They still have to go back to that negative, lowest common denominator of making that connection."

Regardless, there's definitely one crime committed here -- of the journalistic kind. Isn't that picture just like this one last year in The New York Times magazine?

It looks exactly like him; he does look like a mafioso, that is not the magazines fault. What does it have to do with Bush, Obama, etc. Everytime I look at him, I see that fat guy who married Tony Soprano's sister on the show, Bobby.

Looks like a mug shot to me. I am not really a fan of Christie, but I think this is another cheap shot.

I have to admit I never liked the guy much until Sandy. But this Time cover kind of makes me want to vote for him. I mean he looks like a real politician instead of a pitcher of beers only softball league (I don't know what that is either, I just made it up).

I like him, but he's far too liberal for today's GOP. I doubt even Ike, Dick or Ron would make it today.......

If Time is such a pointless rag, why are all you right wing blowhards so insulted? Lol-what a bunch of whining crybabies! Trying to make this guy look good would be akin to polishing a turd.

So, it seems as though that pathetic old sot, Don Imus, still has a network outlet from which he can spew his nastiness. Regarding Mr. Christie I think that he's nothing more than a self serving political opportunist.

It's not like people actually read or buy that POS rag anymore, who cares. Their agenda was noted long ago.

gimme a break, he has NO chance of getting elected Prez. The rest of the country isn't like or even close to Jersey in the way people are measured. Some dumb white religious guy from the south will win the primary and get crushed.

it is amazing how tone deaf republicans are to the people anymore. i guess if you're walled off in a gated community you don't understand that people are extremely opposed to having assault weapons walking around their neighborhoods.
everyone knows the crazy( usually smart) kid from high school who fried his brain a little too much on acid or ecstasy when mom and dad weren't around. and that society has a responsibility to know when "that" kid is trying to get a weapon and makes sure it is extremely difficult for that to happen.
stupid macho culture that stigmatizes mental health therapy needs to check itself also.

and yet another not-so-subtle implication about Christie's strong-arm tactics and his Italian heritage (which is to say, "his Mafia connections", no?). And with it all, another slap at the Italian ethnicity. Could you imagine the same magazine (or this POS site, for that matter) depicting a Jew with a suggestion about the long-held perception of their frugal ways, or depicting a Muslim, assault rifle in hand, with a jihadi message scrawled at the bottom?

Of course not. This is when the average American, Italian or not, knows he's scr*wed. The thought police among us have decided who among us is allowed to catch h*ll and who is not.

I disagree. Christie is not like the boss, Donn Corleone. Christie is like the goon, Luca Brasi!
