Pa. House gets 5 new members

HARRISBURG - Five new members were sworn into the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Tuesday, including two elected to complete the terms of legislators who resigned after pleading guilty to corruption charges.

HARRISBURG - Five new members were sworn into the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Tuesday, including two elected to complete the terms of legislators who resigned after pleading guilty to corruption charges.

The new members include Leanne Krueger-Braneky, Ed Neilson, Joanna McClinton, and Donna Bullock, all Democrats from the Philadelphia area.

Also sworn in was Greg Rothman, a Republican from Cumberland County.

McClinton was elected to serve out the term of Ron Waters, a West Philadelphia Democrat who resigned over the summer after pleading guilty to charges in a sting case that has snared five other elected officials from Philadelphia. McClinton was the onetime chief of staff to Sen. Anthony H. Williams (D., Phila.).

Bullock, who was a special assistant to Philadelphia City Council President Darrell L. Clarke, replaces Michelle Brownlee of West Philadelphia, who also resigned midterm after entering a guilty plea in the sting case.

Neilson, a former Philadelphia city councilman who previously served in the House, was elected to replace John Sabatina Jr., who is now a senator.

Krueger-Braneky, a Swarthmore businesswoman, is filling the Delaware County seat of Republican Joe Hackett, who resigned in the spring to take a new job.

Krueger-Braneky's win gave Democrats an additional House seat. But Democrats remain in the minority in the 203-member chamber, where Republicans control 119 seats.
