Fitzpatrick to chair terrorism task force

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.) will chair a new bipartisan task force that will focus on terrorist financing, an issue that has risen to the fore in part because of groups such as ISIS.

Fitzpatrick will assume his role with the Task Force to Investigate Terrorist Financing once the House Financial Services Committee passes a resolution this week. The panel has until late September to complete its work. Under House rules, such task forces can exist for no longer than six months.

"As the United States pushes back against the tide of terror and extremism that is the enemy of freedom and peace everywhere, it must do so with every tool available, including within the financial system," Fitzpatrick said in a statement.

"It is my hope that this new task force will encourage and produce true bipartisan measures to devastate and disrupt the ability of terror groups to finance and fund their warped ideologies."
