LOWER MERION For his nearly 30 years of service on various conservation and regulatory boards in Lower Merion, the township's Board of Commissioners honored Robert D. Fox at a meeting on Feb. 18. It followed the lawyer's announcement that he was retiring from public service.

Fox, a lifelong Lower Merion resident, began serving on the township's Environmental Advisory Council in 1987, and over the years also joined the planning and zoning boards as well as the Lower Merion Conservancy, eventually serving as chairman for all four boards, according to a news release.

In his professional life, Fox was a managing partner for the Bala Cynwyd firm Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox, specializing in regulatory compliance for businesses and municipalities in the fields of chemicals, waste, and manufacturing. Fox also dealt with Superfund law, where he worked on issues such as the Keystone XL pipeline.

At the commissioners' meeting, Fox thanked the township, and credited part of his success to the local public schools, including Lower Merion High School, where he met his wife of 38 years, Nancy. - John Moritz
