Black Clergy group backs McCord for governor
The Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity on Thursday endorsed state Treasurer Rob McCord's candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Pennsylvania governor.
"We looked at all the candidates running for governor, and we are firmly convinced that Treasurer McCord has the best experience and vision for the future of Pennsylvania, and McCord is best prepared to defeat Tom Corbett," said the Rev. Terrence D. Griffith, the group's president.
Earlier this month, McCord led in votes among state Democratic committee members, but failed to secure an official endorsement from the party. U.S. Rep. Allyson Y. Schwartz finished second, followed by York County businessman Tom Wolf and former Department of Environmental Protection chiefs John Hanger and Katie McGinty. - Robert Moran
