Firefighters' union boss rips Nutter on fest $

NOT EVERYONE in Philly is a fan of Made in America.

The head of the city firefighters' union - locked in a contract dispute with the city - slammed Mayor Nutter on Wednesday for not fully disclosing the financial arrangements for the music festival on the Ben Franklin Parkway this weekend.

Bill Gault, president of Local 22 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, criticized Nutter for not accepting a recent fire-arbitration award, which Nutter has appealed on the grounds that it is too costly.

"To add insult to injury, Nutter refuses to say how much the city is spending on this self-serving ego-fest, so he can rub shoulders with Jay-Z and buff-up his national profile while the city continues to fall apart," Gault said in a statement.

Nutter has repeatedly declined to provide the full details on how the city and the concert promoters plan to pay for the police and sanitation services associated with the ticketed music festival Saturday and Sunday, although he has said the bulk of the costs will be handled by the promoters.

"Part of this is about investing in the image and support for art and culture and the music industry here in Philadelphia," Nutter said Wednesday. "We're certainly going to do everything we can to minimize any potential impact from an economic standpoint on the city."

Nutter said full details on the finances for the show will be available after the concert.
