Here's what you need to do to vote in Pa.'s Nov. 6 election now that the state requires a photo ID:

If you have a valid photo ID, bring it with you to the polls on Election Day. Acceptable IDs include a Pennsylvania driver's license, or a photo ID issued by a city, state or the federal government that includes an expiration date. Photo IDs issued by Pennsylvania colleges or assisted-living facilities with an expiration date also work.

If you don't have one, you can get a free one by visiting a PennDOT driver's-license center. To prove who you are, bring a Social Security card, passport or birth certificate, plus two proofs of residency, like a utility bill or tax record.

If you don't have a birth certificate or otherwise acceptable ID, the Department of State will issue new voter ID cards in August to those who can provide a date of birth, a Social Security number and two proofs of residency, like a utility bill, deed, lease or tax record.

PennDOT driver's-license centers in Philadelphia are at 801 Arch St., 1530 S. Columbus Blvd., 2320 Island Ave., 919-B Levick St. (in Oxford Levick Shopping Center) and 7121 Ogontz Ave. Call 1-800-932-4600 for assistance.

For more info, call the Department of State's voter-ID hotline at 1-877-868-3772 or the Committee of Seventy's Voter-ID Coalition hotline at 1-866-687-8683.
