Tara, a 14-year-old cat, is back at the Pennsylvania SPCA after being abandoned in a Belleville, Ill., hotel by her former owner.

On Sunday the shelter received a call from the St. Clair County Animal Shelter, which had scanned the cat for an identification chip and found it had been adopted in 2012 from the PSPCA.

When contacted, her owner said that Tara was hiding under the bed when it came time for him to leave and he didn't have time to get her out. He also said he didn't want to reclaim Tara, the shelter stated.

After an 800-mile plane ride, Tara was picked up at the Philadelphia International Airport on Monday and is now resting comfortably in the shelter's intake center. After she is evaluated, Tara will be available for adoption, said Gillian Kocher, PSPCA spokesperson.

"The Pennsylvania SPCA stands behind our animals and will also take them back regardless of time or geographic distance. We are dedicated to finding Tara a loving family to live out her golden years," said Kocher.
