Police officer injured in crash while stopping theft suspects

A Philadelphia officer was in stable condition and being treated for leg injuries, police said Sunday.

A Philadelphia police officer was injured in a hit-and-run accident Sunday afternoon while attempting to stop a vehicle whose occupants were wanted in connection with a theft, police said.

The officer, who was not identified, suffered leg injuries and was in stable condition at Temple University Hospital after the 1:30 p.m. crash, said Officer Tanya Little, a department spokeswoman.  The accident occurred at the McDonald's parking lot in the 3100 block of North Broad Street.

The vehicle that struck the police cruiser fled the scene, and was later recovered, unoccupied, in the 1600 block of West Indiana Avenue, police said. The make and model of that vehicle were not disclosed. Police said the passenger side of the patrol vehicle was minimally damaged.

No details were provided on the theft case.
