Weekend crash closes PennDot driver's license center

A motorist lost control of a vehicle Sunday morning, crashing through PennDot’s Island Avenue Driver’s License Center in Southwest Philadelphia

Authorities said the center, which was closed on Sunday, remains closed for repairs until further notice as damage was being assessed Monday.

“We’re so grateful that there were no employees or workers in the building and the driver was not hurt.” said Alexis Campbell, a spokeswoman for PennDot.

Customers who have skills tests scheduled are being contacted and redirected to the Whitman Plaza Driver’s License Center.

Drivers who need photo license services may visit the Driver License Centers located at Whitman Plaza, 330 W. Oregon Avenue in Philadelphia, 801 Arch Street in Philadelphia, or at the Granite Run Mall (behind Acme), at 1067 West Baltimore Pike in Media.

More information is available on PennDOT’s website, which includes a list of more centers and the hours of operation. Online services are also available at any time.
