Independence Hall is now a no-drone zone.

A ban went into effect Thursday on drone flights over Independence Hall and nine other national landmarks around the county.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it imposed the ban at the request of national security and law enforcement officials.

Drones are not permitted to fly within 400 feet of the sites, under the new regulation.

Besides Independence Hall, the other sites are:

Statue of Liberty National Monument, New York Boston National Historical Park (U.S.S. Constitution), Boston Folsom Dam; Folsom, Calif. Glen Canyon Dam; Lake Powell, Ariz. Grand Coulee Dam; Grand Coulee, Wash. Hoover Dam; Boulder City, Nev. Jefferson National Expansion Memorial; St. Louis Mount Rushmore National Memorial; Keystone, S.D, Shasta Dam; Shasta Lake, Calif.

Violators face civil penalties and possible criminal charges, the FAA said.

A similar ban is in place for military bases around the nation.
