Authorities are investigating after a man was struck and killed by an Amtrak Acela train in Bucks County Thursday morning.

The man was in the track area near Croydon when he was hit shortly before 10 a.m., Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz said.

The man, 65-year-old Bensalem resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sgt. Ralph Johnson, the acting police chief in Bristol Township.

Reports from witnesses indicated the man intentionally put himself in the train's path, Johnson said.

Amtrak said the Acela train, traveling from Boston to Washington, D.C., was carrying 287 passengers at the time. No riders or crew members were injured.

Inbound service on SEPTA's Trenton Regional Rail line was suspended for several hours while emergency crews responded to the scene.

The transit agency said shortly before 1:30 p.m. that trains had started running again.

Amtrak said its trains trains traveling through the area would also face delays.

The passengers on train that struck the person were being transferred to another train to complete their trips.

The incident remains under investigation.
