Robbers posing as cops hold up auto detailer

Two robbers posing as police officers held up the owner of a Northeast Philadelphia auto-detailing shop Saturday night, police said.

Two robbers posing as police officers held up the owner of a Northeast Philadelphia auto-detailing shop Saturday night, police said.

The owner of DTMS Detailing on the 100 block of Geiger Road told police that he was sitting at his desk in his second-floor office around 8 p.m. when two men came in and started yelling "Cops!"

The men, one of whom had a handgun, ran upstairs and told the owner to get on the floor. After they bound his hands with zip ties, the men put him in a chair and demanded money and drugs, according to the Philadelphia Police Department's public affairs office. They took $1,200 from his wallet and when they asked where "the rest" was, the owner directed them to a box on the first floor.

After one of the men checked and found no money inside the box, the owner asked to see their search warrant. The suspects told him, "We are going to get the warrant," according to the public affairs office.

Soon afterward, the men fled and drove away from the scene in a dark-colored vehicle. The owner of the shop was able to remove the zip ties from his hands, and he was not injured.

Police ask that anyone with information contact Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153.
