Oxford's historic district receives official recognition

OXFORD The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission last week officially certified the historical significance of the Oxford Borough historic district.

"This is a great example of how hard work, perseverance, and dedication create positive results. I congratulate everyone involved in this accomplishment," Oxford Mayor Geoff Henry said in a statement.

Less than two square miles in area, Oxford is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Situated in an agricultural area halfway between Philadelphia and Baltimore, Oxford is known for its walkability and family-oriented community.

Recognized as a borough in 1833, Oxford was named by the Delaware Valley Planning Commission on its list of classic towns of Greater Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is responsible for the collection, conservation, and interpretation of Pennsylvania's historic heritage.
