Threat closes Whole Foods store for second time this month

Shoppers and employees at the Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting were evacuated Sunday when a suspicious package was found in the store - the second time this month a threat shut down the market.

Shoppers and employees at the Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting were evacuated Sunday when a suspicious package was found in the store - the second time this month a threat shut down the market.

The package was found around 1 p.m., store team leader Sue Haney said. Haney said the store - which is part of the Plymouth Meeting Mall along Germantown Pike - was closed for about 90 minutes while police investigated.

Several surrounding stores were also evacuated.

The Plymouth Township Police Department declined to comment.

The same Whole Foods was closed for about two hours on Aug. 8 because of a bomb threat.

A Whole Foods corporate spokeswoman said in a statement Sunday that the safety of customers and employees is a top priority, and the store was evacuated as soon as the package was found.

She declined to describe the suspicious package or comment further.
