Old City has been recognized as one of the most vibrant art-oriented neighborhoods in the nation by ArtPlace, a national coalition of foundations, banks, and federal agencies. In a report released Monday, ArtPlace said Old City demonstrated "a combination of factors that place it in the top 12" creative neighborhoods.

Communities were ranked based on their success in "combining the arts, artists, and venues for creativity and expression with independent businesses, restaurants, and a walkable lifestyle."

ArtPlace, which counts the William Penn Foundation among its major funders, provides grants and loans, supports research, and conducts outreach and advocacy. It has awarded 80 grants totaling $26.9 million to 76 organizations in 46 U.S. communities. - Stephan Salisbury
