A BASKETBALL GAME at Kingsessing Recreation Center turned bloody last night when six people were shot at halftime, police said.

The Southwest Detective Division is investigating the shootings, which happened at 8:50 p.m. near 51st Street and Chester Avenue.

Lt. John Walker said five men and a woman suffered gunshot wounds.

Four of the men and the woman were shot in the lower extremities and taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and listed in stable condition; the sixth victim was shot in the stomach and leg and was listed in critical condition at HUP.

A sergeant on the scene said two officers from the 12th District, at 65th Street and Woodland Avenue, were among the playoff game's 500 spectators.

The officers chased the suspect on foot, but no arrest was made, police said. Walker said a man at the game opened fire, apparently aiming for someone who entered the fenced area from 51st Street. Police recovered 11 shell casings at the scene.
