Troopers raid popular bars for unlicensed beers
Posted on Mon, Mar 08, 2010
IT WAS ELIOT NESS and the Untouchables, as played by the Keystone Kops. More than a dozen armed State Police officers conducted simultaneous raids last week on three popular Philadelphia bars known for their wide beer selections. The cops confiscated hundreds of bottles of expensive ales and lagers, now in State Police custody at an undisclosed location.

What a great investment of time and money for our state police. "A citizen complaint" they say. Let's see, what politician has a stake in a competing joint? What are the chances just any citizen can get such a police response with one complaint? Our state is a comedy, albeit an archaic one, in regard to alcohol. Guess there was nothing else pressing around the state so it was very important to send those police officeers (how many @ how much $$?) to get that $7200. of LEGAL beer. Why not go after the brewer who's responsibility it is. Clearly a vendetta vs. these owners. Yep, someone connected.

I heard "Benny the Bums" in the Northeast was in big trouble. The State troopers already closed his other place.

My understanding is the PLCB recently leased two, 20,000 SF+, corporate offices without engaging the GSA or any other real estate agency to represent them. They did no comparison shopping at all and cost the PA tax payers, at a minimum, hundreds of thousands of dollars that they didn't need to. They were aware of the situation but "we have to rent from these owners no matter what."

Yet another example of government employee's Nazi mentality. EVERY cop, administrator and politician that were involved in this should be FIRED immediately.

Registering brands of beer to sell. Absurd. Can anyone over the age of 7 possibly support the inane and idiot rules (or in fact existence) of the PLCB? The entire PLCB could be done away with tomorrow, with absolutely no effect to Commonwealth residents except to reduce their tax burden.

Seems like competition or a po'd local neighborhood group called in the snitch. Leave it to the knuckle draggers in the funny hats to follow the law to a T. I wonder if they wore that jock strap on the chin when they did it.

Another example of the cronyism and archaic ineptitude in the worlds largest buyer of alcohol. There is a sherry like product that I bought at the winery store in California and it is only available there and through mail order. But Pennsylvania DOES NOT permit wine sales online. Its time to reform this MONOPOLY!
