An unidentified man was killed in a shooting in the Parkside section of West Philadelphia early yesterday, police said. A 24-year-old man likely was wounded in the same shooting.
Police were called at 1:04 a.m. to the 1200 block of North 42d Street, where they found evidence of a shooting. They soon found a man lying in front of a house in the 1700 block of Memorial Avenue with several gunshot wounds to his chest. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and pronounced dead at 4:40 a.m.
Around 1:20 a.m., a private automobile dropped off a man with gunshot wounds to his legs and arms at HUP, police said. He claimed to have been shot at 39th and Brown Streets in Mantua, but police found no crime scene and there were no reports of gunfire in the neighborhood.
The man, whose name was not released, was under police guard last night in stable condition in the hospital. - Robert Moran
