Kensington man arrested in rape of woman

Philadelphia police have arrested and charged a Kensington man in one of two weekend rapes.

Jose Miranda, 31, of the 3300 block of G Street, was charged with sexual assault and related offenses in an attack on a woman who accepted a ride home from him after a party early Sunday. Police said the 21-year-old victim was riding in Miranda's car through Northeast Philadelphia about 6 a.m. when Miranda allegedly pulled to the side of the road on the 5800 block of Ditman Street and sexually assaulted her. The woman was able to escape from the vehicle after being raped.

As Miranda sped from the scene, his vehicle crashed into several cars. He jumped from his vehicle and ran away, said police, who arrested him Sunday afternoon after tracing ownership of the car. - Sam Wood
