U.S. attorney in Western Pa. to step down in Nov.

PITTSBURGH - The U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Mary Beth Buchanan, is resigning.

Buchanan, who was appointed in September 2001 after 13 years as an assistant U.S. attorney, said she will step down Nov. 16. Serving has been an honor, she said, and she is looking forward to the next chapter in her career. She didn't say what that would be.

Buchanan said she focused on combating terrorism, drug and gun violence, corporate fraud, civil-rights abuses, and sexual predators of children. - AP
