5 area schools win U.S. Blue Ribbon honors

Five local schools have been named 2009 U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools. The winners, announced yesterday, are: Bodine High School for International Affairs and Ad Prima Charter School in Philadelphia; Waldron Mercy Academy in Merion Station; Epiphany of Our Lord School in Plymouth Meeting; and Grey Nun Academy in Yardley. No local New Jersey schools won the honor this year.

The U.S. Department of Education gives the honor annually to schools that either are "academically superior" or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. - Kristen A. Graham
