The Germantown house used by President George Washington during parts of 1793 and 1794 will reopen today after being closed for almost a year and a half for major renovation and exhibition installation, according to officials at Independence National Historical Park, which manages the historic site.
The Germantown White House, formerly called the Deshler-Morris House, 5442 Germantown Ave., has received extensive restoration, a geothermal heating-cooling system, and new interactive exhibits exploring Germantown history, the 1777 Battle of Germantown, and Washington's presidency and his household, including the four enslaved Africans known to have worked in the house.
The Germantown White House will be open to the public free Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. - Stephan Salisbury
