2 missing in Delaware River boating accident

The U.S. Coast Guard, Philadelphia police, and volunteer rescuers were searching late into last night for a man and a child missing in the Delaware River near the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.

The incident began with a family outing on a 16-foot-boat, according to the Coast Guard. A 9-year-old boy went overboard, and two men jumped into the river to try to rescue him. One of the men got safely out of the water, said Coast Guard Petty Officer 3d Class Crystalynn Kneen, but she was not certain whether he was rescued or got out on his own.

The other man and the boy remained missing early this morning.

A Coast Guard helicopter began an aerial search after 11 p.m. and was to continue for about an hour before giving way to a police helicopter. - AP

It's speculation whether the Washington Wizards played inspired tonight, but it was obvious that the 76ers did not play inspired defense in the third quarter. On the night that longtime Wizards owner Pollin died of a rare brain disorder, his team played better than it has played for much of this season in a 108-107 win over the 76ers.
