Train station renovation is on track in Lancaster

LANCASTER - A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled tomorrow on an $8.5 million renovation of the aging Lancaster train station. The start of the project comes after a decade of planning and discussion, said Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray.

The station was built in 1929 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The renovation will restore it to its original appearance. The work will begin next month, with completion expected by the end of next year.

Last year, 484,102 passengers arrived or departed from the Lancaster station, ranking it 22d out of the nation's 525 Amtrak stations. - AP
