Family to reject Haverford offer for land

Haverford Township officials plan to offer $1.26 million to the owners of a former bubble-gum factory in exchange for taking the 6.3-acre parcel by eminent domain.

The property owners plan to fight in court to receive a far greater sum, possibly as much as $6 million.

Township commissioners voted in November to take the land at Eagle and Lawrence Roads, but did not take the first legal step in court until March 31. Officials have said they would like the land to be used for a community building or a YMCA.

The property owners, the Fenimore family, intend to ask for more money, their lawyer, David Snyder, said yesterday - "a lot more than that," he said. - Joelle Farrell
