Ex-school official charged with child porn

A former Marple Newtown School District employee has been indicted by a federal grand jury on child-pornography charges.

Joseph Violanti was charged in October with receiving sexually explicit images of minors and possession of child pornography. The charges stem from incidents in Monroe County between 2001 and December 2006.

Violanti, 37, resigned from his position as technology director in December for personal reasons, according to district officials. He started with the district in January 2007 and was paid $100,000 a year.

According to court papers, the material was found on his home computer and DVDs and CDs in his house. He lived in West Chester when he was charged.
