N.J. man fined $1,000 for role in sea gull's death

MANASQUAN, N.J. - A Morris County man was fined $1,000 yesterday for his role in the death of a sea gull in Manasquan.

Cory Kendelski, of Roxbury, was accused last week of beating the bird with a Wiffle Ball bat on the beach. The 18-year-old admitted to negligent conduct and told the judge the gull had swooped toward him as he and a friend ate lunch.

Kendelski said he swung the bat to shoo the bird away, but he never meant to kill it.

In addition to paying the fine, Kendelksi was ordered to pay a $55 veterinary cost for euthanizing the bird. - AP
