Ex-police chief, 81, charged in prostitution sting

EASTON, Pa. - A former police chief of Palmer Township in Northampton County is facing a prostitution charge.

Authorities say Nick DiVietro, 81, was one of four men arrested in a sting this month in Easton. He is accused of offering $20 to an undercover female police officer.

DiVietro, who was chief for 28 years until 1990 and then safety and welfare officer for the Easton Area School District from 1991 until he retired, was charged with soliciting prostitution and released.

Soliciting prostitution is a third-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a $2,500 fine. - AP
