A 33-year-old middle school teacher suffered non-life-threatening injuries when she was struck by lightning Wednesday afternoon in Ocean County, police said.

The woman was performing bus duty at the end of the school day, around 2:30 p.m., at Manchester Middle School in Manchester Township when lightning struck the umbrella she was holding, police said.

She was standing and alert after the strike, but reported tingling in her arm and hand. She was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment, police said.

The lightning came amid a nor'easter that moved through the Philadelphia region on Wednesday, prompting a significant number of transit delays, closings and power outages.
