Bus fatally strikes woman headed to Philadelphia Flower Show

Myriam Roman, 83, became pinned beneath a front tire after she walked in front of the bus, the Daily Journal reported. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 83-year-old woman was fatally struck Monday by a chartered bus that had reportedly been hired to take her and at least 50 others in Vineland, N.J., to the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Myriam Roman became pinned beneath a front tire after she walked in front of the bus, the Vineland Daily Journal reported. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roman's family declined to comment Monday afternoon.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. in a parking lot near Lincoln and Dante Avenues. The Journal said that the bus was having mechanical problems and that the driver was pulling away to pick up a different bus when Roman walked in front of it and was struck. The driver was not charged.

Vineland Fire Capt. Tony Saltar told the Inquirer that firefighters were initially called for a rescue assignment, but then told the person struck had died. He said the lot is a common meeting spot to take people to events.

The Journal said a Vineland resident organized Monday's trip to the Flower Show.
