A South Jersey man pleaded guilty Thursday to scamming women in another state by saying he wanted a romantic relationship and needed money to relocate to be near them, authorities said.

Patrick Giblin, 52, formerly of Ventnor, had already been sentenced in 2007 for a similar scheme, and in 2015 for violating the terms of his supervised release, authorities said.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Giblin was not allowed to leave New Jersey, but traveled to Albany County, N.Y., to scam women there he had contacted through telephone dating services, where he posted advertisements and messages.

Giblin told his victims to transfer money through wire services, promised to pay them back, and bought additional airtime minutes on cellphones to defraud more women, authorities said.

Giblin stole at least $15,000 from 10 women in various states, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

He could face up to five years in prison for the most recent charge, called "interstate travel and use of a facility in interstate and foreign commerce with the intent to launder money."
