Funeral scheduled for Lindenwold twins found dead in apartment

Police are still investigating what caused the deaths of Jessenia and Juliana Rodriguez-Garnett, who had turned "purple," according to their mother's 911 call.

A funeral will be held Saturday for 7-month-old twin girls who were found dead at their mother's Lindenwold, Camden County, apartment last week.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the deaths of Jessenia and Juliana Rodriguez-Garnett. Their mother, identified in the twins' obituary as Alexandria Garnett, called 911 last Wednesday and said the children had turned "purple."

Lindenwold Fire Chief Michael Nolan said firefighters were dispatched to the Pines Apartments just off Bilper Avenue for "respiratory arrest" — but then were quickly called off after authorities realized the children were dead.

"We were recalled immediately, not even two minutes after we were dispatched," Nolan said.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office has said the cause of death is pending further tests by the medical examiner. Nolan said dispatchers made no mention of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Markia Conover, 26, Garnett's friend, said Wednesday it was still unclear what happened.

"I try not to ask about it, to give her some space," Conover, of Pine Hill, said. "She just lost her two kids, so I try to give her some time, time to heal."

Conover said that Jessenia and Juliana had a close bond and that one of the twins would sometimes hold hands with the other when they slept.

"They were happy, always smiling," Conover said. They had four siblings, according to the obituary.

Saturday's viewing will be from 11 a.m. to noon at Ora L. Wooster Funeral Home in Clementon, 51 Park Blvd. A funeral will follow. Both are expected to be open to the public.
