You know what else would be 'great'? -- if Rutgers canned AD Julie Hermann

Meet the worst person in the world today, Rutgers athletic director Julie Hermann:

The Rutgers athletics director, in a wide-ranging discussion with the class, was talking about her own rocky introduction with the media in New Jersey when … well, here is the exchange:

"If they're not writing headlines that are getting our attention, they're not selling ads – and they die," Hermann told the Media Ethics and Law class. "And the Ledger almost died in June, right?"

"They might die again next month," a student said.

"That would be great," she replied. "I'm going to do all I can to not give them a headline to keep them alive."

Look, to be clear, as a supporter of free speech -- even anti-journalist hate speech -- I wouldn't push to fire Hermann solely over her loathsome, despicable view that folks who've been in a job for 30 years and who might have a mortgage or a kid or two in college should be tossed out in the street so she won't have to read a headline that makes her uncomfortable. But Rutgers can rectify a mistake, because she never should have been given the job in the first place. Maybe the reason that Julie Hermann gets so much bad press is not because of the press, but because she's bad:

Hermann came with her own baggage—the women's volleyball team she coached at the University of Tennessee 17 years ago wrote a letter to the athletic department accusing her of "mental cruelty," including referring to athletes as "whores, alcoholics, and learning disabled."

I also like (note to the sarcasm-impaired...I'm being sarcastic) the part where she said college athletes can't unionize because most programs "are barely making it," failing to note that her salary is $450,000 (???) Of course, Gov. Christie will probably give her a raise now, for attacking the media.

By the way, Christie is also having a bad day.
