Sex assault suspect nabbed at N.J. Wheels of Soul clubhouse

Police have arrested a suspect in a sexual assault early Thursday at the Wheels of Soul clubhouse in Camden.

Antoywayn Lindsey, 34, allegedly attacked a woman around 2 a.m. inside the clubhouse, located at 843 Princess Ave. Police said he forced the victim into a room and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. The victim escaped and was located by police, investigators said.

Lindsey was arrested at the Wheels of Soul clubhouse Thursday morning. Police said he was found to be in possession of two loaded handguns – a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum and a Smith & Wesson .38 Special CTG.

Lindsey is charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of unlawful weapons possession and one count each of kidnapping, making terroristic threats and aggravated assault.

Lindsey also faces several additional weapons offenses. Police said he is barred from possessing a firearm due to a prior conviction for aggravated manslaughter. According to court documents, Lindsey was sentenced in 1997 to 19 years in jail for the offense. He was paroled in October 2007.

Lindsey was also handed down a two-year probation term in 2011 after pleading guilty to eluding law enforcement, court documents state. He is imprisoned at the Camden county jail on $400,000 cash bail.

Police officials have indicated that the Camden Wheels of Soul clubhouse, located in the city's Parkside neighborhood, has been a nuisance property for years.

A man was fatally shot outside the club in April 2007. Several months later, a man was arrested for dealing cocaine from the property, an offense to which he later pleaded guilty.

Police and health officials shut down the Camden outpost in 2010 due to numerous health, safety and fire code violations. A second shooting outside the Princess Avenue property wounded two men in July 2012.

The Wheels of Soul outlaw motorcycle club is reportedly headquartered in Philadelphia but is believed to have chapters around the country. At least 22 reputed members have been indicted since 2011 on charges ranging from drug distribution and racketeering to murder.

Investigators said the police department is now working with city officials to again address code violations at the Camden Wheels of Soul clubhouse.
