Rutgers player charged with robbery in Fla.
Rutgers University is looking into the arrest over the weekend of football player Darian Dailey on armed robbery charges in Florida.
"Once those facts are gathered, we will take the appropriate action," Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said in a statement.
According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, Dailey, 19, of Bradenton, Fla., and Trazelle Johnson, 20, robbed a bicyclist at gunpoint about 2 a.m. Sunday in Sarasota.
The pair, who were in a car, were arrested in neighboring Manatee County after the victim gave investigators the license plate number of the men who robbed him, officials told the newspaper.
The Manatee County Sherrif's Department confirmed Dailey's arrest on an armed robbery warrant. He was released Monday on $150,000 bond. Johnson remained in jail.
The Herald Tribune said the robbery victim identified Dailey, a cornerback on the Rutgers team and former Manatee High School standout, and Johnson as his assailants.
Last year, Philip Nelson, a Minnesota State quarterback who had just transferred to Rutgers, was thrown off the team after he was arrested in an assault that left Minnesota state linebacker Isaac Kolstad with brain injuries.
Nelson, who was home in Minnesota at the time of the assault, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in January after prosecutors determined a co-defendant was more responsible than Nelson for Kolstad's injuries from a fight in which Kolstad threw the first punch.
Nelson, who never appeared on the field for Rutgers, was sentenced in March to two days of jail time already served and 100 hours of community service.
