Record lows set in Atlantic City, Wilmington

A cold snap in the region brought record-low temperatures to Atlantic City and Wilmington.

The temperature in Atlantic City dropped to 2 degrees at 11:33 p.m. Monday, setting the record low for the date and an all-time low for the entire month of March, according to the National Weather Service.

The previous record for March 3 was 5 degrees, recorded in 2009. And the old all-time March low was from March 4, 2009, when the mercury dropped to 3 degrees.

In Wilmington, the 8 degrees recorded at 11:20 p.m. hit a new low for the date, beating the previous record of 9. That mark was set in both 2009 and 1925.

Philadelphia's Monday low of 16 degrees stayed above the record low of 10.

For more records to be set today, the temperature would have to dip to 7 degrees in Philadelphia, 3 in Atlantic City and 5 in Wilmington.

The last time Philadelphia saw a single-digit temperature in March was three decades ago, when 7 degrees was recorded on March 10, 1984, according to the weather service.

Early this morning, the temperature in Philadelphia remained in the low teens.

Forecasters say the day should be mostly sunny in Philadelphia, with a high of 29 degrees and wind-chill values as low as minus 1.

It will be another cold night into Wednesday, with a forecasted low of 17.

A warm-up is expected throughout the rest of the week, with forecasters calling for highs of 37 degrees on Wednesday, 40 on Thursday, 41 on Friday and 50 on Saturday. There's a slight chance of rain or snow Thursday night, the weather service says.
