A former Burlington County public school teacher is accused of trying to lure a onetime female student to engage in sexual activity.

Patrick McGwier, 30, of East Windsor, is charged with one count of attempted luring through electronic means.

Prosecutors said he taught the now-15-year-old victim while she was in eighth grade at Memorial Middle School in Willingboro.

McGwier allegedly contacted the girl earlier this year through social media and "expressed an interest in pursuing a relationship," according to a news release from the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

The victim's family contacted law enforcement, touching off an investigation by the county prosecutor's Sexual Assault and High Tech Crimes units.

Believing he was still communicating with the victim, McGwier arranged to meet Thursday at an undisclosed location in Willingboro, officials said.

He was actually interacting with a detective from the High Tech Crimes Unit, according to investigators.

When McGwier showed up for the meeting, he was arrested by officers with the Willingboro Township Police Department.

He remained imprisoned Friday at the Burlington County Jail on $100,000 full bail.
