Escaped sex offender captured in South Jersey

Police in South Jersey this afternoon captured a convicted sex offender who escaped from custody late last week in Cumberland County.

Caesar Lockley, 25, was in handcuffs on Friday when he fled from law enforcement officials in Fairfield Township near Bridgeton. The prosecutor's office did not release details of the escape.

Today, he was taken into custody by the Millville Police Department at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds.

Lockley previously had been arrested after he failed to appear for a March 15 sentencing. According to the prosecutor's office, Lockley, a second-tier sex offender, failed to notify authorities of a change of address.

Lockley, who lived in Collingswood, was found guilty in 2007 of endangering the welfare of a child. According to court records, he inappropriately touched a boy under the age of 13.

In a statement, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's office said it would release details of Lockley's capture later today.
