Cops: Woman found in woods in South Jersey was slain

Authorities say a woman whose body was found in a wooded area of South Jersey this weekend was slain, and they are asking for help finding her killer.

New Jersey State Police today identified 37-year-old Jennifer Cruz-Chavez, of Bridgeton, as the woman whose body was found off Buckshutem Road in Fairfield Township on Sunday.

Hunters called police after finding her in the Cumberland County woods at about 4:35 p.m.

She was pronounced dead about two hours later.

A medical examiner ruled Cruz-Chavez's death a homicide and determined that she died of blunt-force trauma, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 609-882-2000, ext. 2538, or 856-451-0101.
