Cops: N.J. couple stole $1K in baby formula

Police on Wednesday arrested a South Jersey couple for allegedly trying to steal more than $1,000 worth of baby formula from a supermarket.

Officers with the Gloucester Township Police Department responded shortly before 4:45 p.m. to a ShopRite in Clementon for a report that store security had detained two shoplifters.

Police took into custody Erica Williams, 23, and Demetris Williams, 27, both of Sewell. Investigators said the duo tried to flee the supermarket without paying for 67 cans of baby formula, valued at $1,051.

Both suspects were charged with third-degree shoplifting. Erica Williams was also charged with failure to appear in connection with an unrelated offense. She was jailed at the Camden County Correctional Facility in default of bail.
