Cops: Cherry Hill man fires gun, bullet lodges in neighbor's home
A 60-year-old Cherry Hill man faces charges after police say he fired a gun inside his residence during a domestic dispute and a bullet ended up lodged in a neighbor's home.
James W. Stephans , 60, of the 500 Block of Covered Bridge Road, was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said they were called 3:35 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a shooting. During their investigation, police said they discovered Stephans and his wife had been arguing.
The wife called a friend for help. As the friend arrived, Stephans allegedly pointed a gun at him. The friend fled.
At that point, Stephans was alone in the home. Police say he then fired a round from his gun. A bullet went through the wall of his house and became lodged in a shingle on a neighbor's home.
Stephans was taken to Camden County Jail in lieu of $100,000.00 full cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in Camden County Superior Court on Oct. 23.
