Reports: Brigantine woman plunges down elevator shaft at Fenway

A 22-year-old woman from Brigantine, N.J., fell down an elevator shaft and onto the top of an elevator car over the weekend and was hospitalized in serious condition, according to news accounts in the Boston area.

The victim, Lizzy Scotland, was with other people at the time of the accident late Friday night. The Boston Globe reported that she was was on the fourth floor when she fell and landed on an elevator car stopped on the second floor, a fire official told reporters.

Authorities learned of the incident about 11:15 p.m. after a Red Sox game had let out.  Scotland was knocked unconscious and was unresponsive when rescue crews arrived. She is being treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Relatives of Scotland's told the newspaper that they thank the public for their concern but asked for prayers and privacy. Scotland's name was first reported by WBZ-TV.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts elevator inspectors were at the ballpark over the weekend trying to figure out how Scotland fell down the elevator shaft - if both doors opened or only one, or if the bottom gave way.

Scotland's Facebook profile says that she was originally from Brigantine, but now lives in Boston.
