Snow sets record in Atlantic City

The late-March snow that made its way through the Philadelphia region set a record in Atlantic City.

The National Weather Service says 3.9 inches of snow fell Tuesday at the Atlantic City Airport, setting a new record for the date.

The previous March 25 snowfall record in Atlantic City was 2 inches, set last year. After midnight, another 0.1 inch fell, equaling the daily record for March 26, according to the weather service.

Many places along the Shore in South Jersey got several inches of snow.

In Cape May County, Cape May saw 6.5 inches, while 5.5 inches fell in Green Creek and 5 inches in Seaville. In Atlantic County, 4.8 inches fell in Somers Point and Pleasantville got 4 inches.

Farther south, multiple locations in Delaware saw five to seven inches of snow.

Philadelphia and its immediate suburbs were largely spared.

Just 0.4 inch was recorded at Philadelphia International Airport.

Most of the Pennsylvania suburbs saw less than an inch of snow, while parts of Burlington and Gloucester counties recorded 1 to 1.5 inches.

The weather service says today is expected to be breezy in Philadelphia, with a high temperature around 38 degrees, winds around 15 to 24 mph and wind gusts of up to 39 mph.

Forecasters say temperatures in the region are slated to plunge overnight into the teens and low 20s. Temperatures that cold could set records, the weather service said.

The record low for Philadelphia for March 27 is 21 degrees.
