Two women were killed and several other people were injured Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway.

Shortly before 3 p.m., a Saturn collided with a Ford pickup truck in the southbound lanes near mile marker 63.6 in Stafford Township, Ocean County, Trooper Alina Spies of the New Jersey State Police said.

Two women sitting in the front seat of the Saturn were pronounced dead at the scene. A boy and a girl sitting in the back seat were flown to Atlantic City Medical Center with unknown injuries, Spies said.

The four people riding in the truck - a man, woman, boy and girl - were taken to Southern Ocean County Hospital to be examined, Spies said. Their injuries were not believed to be severe.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, Spies said. An investigation is underway.
