Police shoot man during domestic incident in Camden

A Camden County police officer shot a man during a domestic violence incident Wednesday, authorities said. The shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. when police responded to a 911 call in the 2700 block of Federal Street in the city of Camden.

The shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. when police responded to a 911 call in the 2700 block of Federal Street in the city of Camden.

Jose Antonio Fernandez Ventura, 38, was walking toward an injured woman inside a home on that block when police arrived, authorities said. An officer then shot Ventura, police said.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office did not say whether Ventura fired or the type of weapon he allegedly had. The office also did not disclose additional details on the encounter.

Ventura was taken to Cooper University Hospital. His condition was not known, The injured woman, whose relation to the man was unclear, was also taken to Cooper. Authorities did not say the extent of her injuries.

The officer, who was not identified, was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure as the prosecutor's office investigates whether the use of force was justified.
